What I have said just above and elsewhere in this document applies to pop and rock singers, as well. I must caution these singers to be aware of the vocal difficulties that can afflict singers in these genres. The voices of pop and rock singers are often strained beyond what is healthy. They need vocal rest on a regular basis. They need to develop with their teachers a directed and thoughtful approach to using the voice that allows them to daily take care of their instruments. Using the voice in a powerful or even rough sound is not, in and of itself, a problem. We singers can survive that. What we must not do is forget to care for our voices.
